If you were going to purchase a used boat what are your priorities. Price, hours on engine, warranty on engine, accessories, boat make or something else. Thanks

I want to meet the owner, and formulate an opinion on whether the boat has been properly cared for. I’d then look over it very well, and likely take it to a mechanic for a compression test I’d also like to see how it’s been ran, WOT or idle…

Above all else I wouldn’t want a boat that wasn’t used much and spent a lot of time sat up, that’s the worst.

I’d look at hours and where it’s been kept for starters.

Thanks, Billy

Thats how I bought my 1994 Basscat P2. I have had it for 7 - 8 years now, very few minor issues. Before I bought it, I took it to Tommy at Rockwall Marine to have the boat gone through and Chris at Classic Fiberglass to have everything else looked at plus install new toys. I am still happy with my purchase. I just wish it wasn't a dual console and had a bigger motor.

Go for a four-stroke motor.

Transom, Hull, & Engine. Engine must have good compression and appear in good shape. Transom must be solid.

My next boat will be my current boat re-stored and re-powered.

I've bought a lot of used boats in my lifetime and the list of things you see here; "all of it".
I bought my current boat and it was a little spooky because it was 10 years old and only had 147 hours on the clock, that worried me a bit but for what I paid for it, it was worth the gamble. The fuel system was a mess so I went through it with all new filters, filled both tanks with premium unleaded and added a can of Seafoam and Berryman Chemtool B12 to both tanks and ran the mess out of it. I had a couple of injectors that acted up a little but once they got some clean fuel and cleaner through them they were fine. I've probably put 200 more hours on it since it came home with me and had zero issues. The main things are the fuel system and the water pump.
If it doesn't have a water pressure gauge put one on it and find out what is customary for idle and WOT water pressure. If it is not reaching those numbers replace that too. You'll wind up burning up the upper cylinders in the motor if it is allowed to run with weak water pressure.

Needed to add this: The fuel system is very important that it function properly. Any lean condition can burn pistons. Probably over 90% of the time blown motors are caused my malfunctioning fuel systems.
