Maybe it's not in your neighborhood but it's in a lot... Public schools are being closed permanently. Not enough students to go to them is the summary.

The "why" behind that is a whole other topic but basically it's demographics and real estate trends.

I can't seem to find an answer though about what will be done with all these campuses. The only thing I can find is that they will be, "repurposed".

Not enough new young families moving to the area. The further the suburban sprawl moves outward, you’ll see the younger families moving to those areas. You’ll notice in those areas the schools are rapidly expanding.

Temporary deportation processing centers. There's a federal bid for 18 of them, why not repurpose closed schools?

Convert them into factories for all of jobs that are coming back to the US.

They usually end up as another eyesore for the neighborhood. Repurpose, fancy word for abandon building.

I think they should be homeless shelters.

Believe it or not the areas the schools are closing or not "bad" areas. To the contrary they're actually usually in very nice areas.

Is Jay pointed out it's a demographic thing. Lot of these homes in this areas were built in the late '90s early 2000s. Starter homes at the time. $100,000 or so. They are worth 5-7x that now

Those folks all raised families in those homes. And now the kids have moved away and the parents? Well they're not going anywhere! Why would they want to move way out to Prosper or Anna etc? That's where all the young families who can't afford these homes are moving to... Assuming these homes were for sale. Which not many of them are.

So I'm pretty sure the constituents would not like the idea of setting up homeless shelters in these areas... That would not fly. Same reason all those towns to the north do not want the DART rail coming to their towns. The only people who would use it would be the homeless. To go up there and bother their citizens and constituents.

Churches will buy some.

Most of them have daycare centers in them. They will just have room to expand. Squeeze in a tattoo parlor and a pawn shop and the place won’t look much different

I thought I read somewhere that Frisco ISD was out in front on this. The schools were built for an easier conversion into a “retirement center.”
