Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. - 2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV)

One evening my wife and I were headed out for dinner for our weekly date night. We were driving on the freeway when the flow of traffic came to an abrupt stop. I glanced into my rearview mirror to see that the car behind me wasn’t slowing down, and I braced myself and muttered out loud, “Oh no!” as the car ran into us.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. However, the back of our car was banged up. The insurance company told me that the car wasn’t worth the amount that it was going to cost to have it fixed. They offered me a check for the estimated value of the car and told me if I got it fixed and continued to drive it that it would have a salvaged title. I accepted the check and chose to have the car repaired.

It has been nine years since the accident and our “salvaged” car still runs like new. When I think of our car being made new, I think of what Jesus has done for us all by forgiving us of our sins. The truth is, we are all salvaged. We have all fallen short, but by God’s grace we have all been given the opportunity to be made new. God sent Jesus to show us the way to eternal life. May we all follow the One who has offered this amazing gift.

Today's Prayer
Dear God, we know that we have sinned. Yet, you continue to be merciful to us and call us your children. Give us a desire to follow your will for our lives. Amen.

Thank you Lord for the grace and mercy you show to us, rather than the justice we deserve!
