I was doing a few interviews in Idaho. Wanted things to work out with moving and family staying behind. It was good untill it started coming down to it. Welp, started the demo on my house here in Olympia this weekend. Going to all LVP throughout, going to brocade my 3 single coffered ceilings, new paint. Already did the front curb appeal and new lawn in November. Buddy is dropping his big dump trailer 5/1 and we're throwing away a lot of [censored] so the move is easy. Realtor, trim contractor, painter, floor installer all coming by this week for preliminary schedule and ideas. Hoping to list early June. We are 100% locked in and leaving this state and never looking back. Been to long in the planning process that now the stress part for me over. I project manage new construction so handling my own job mixed in with another dozen will be easy. Minus the part I'm doing all the demo work. Just excited to finally see these days here. As far as Idaho and construction. It is super busy and I'll find something when I'm there. That was a big set back living here and then trying to get a job there. Employers wanted immediate hires.
Does anyone have experience with PODS? Vs. Tractor trailer long haul moving company. Kind of what I'm leaning towards. The long hauler movers.
ANYWAY EXCITED IT'S FINALLY IN THE WORKS....FUW

Good luck with your move.

Last time i helped with a big move, we ended up moving everything with a few big uhauls. They didn’t have access to their new home for a few weeks, so we went to a pod warehouse near their new house, and put all the stuff from the uhaul into the pods.

Then when they got their house they had time to get the stuff out of the pod at their new house over the course of a week or so.

Pods, pending on how far you go are expensive they saved like 3-4k doing what I described.
Movers are pretty expensive, I’m not sure how they compare to pods.

Call ABF and get a trailer. They can store it for as long as you need. Pack and unload at your own pace.

Don't put anything that can't handle heat in trailer.

Good luck with the remodel and move.

God bless!!

Left that state myself close to 20 years ago.

Where in Idaho are you going?

I looked into pods when I moved and I could not see any savings in going that route, but that was 20 years ago.

We used PODs for our move from Texas to Florida last year and I have to say it was a very good experience and it went off without a hitch. We did not bring any big furniture other than a couple of mattresses, everything else was boxes or totes. We loaded and unloaded it by ourselves. Once they picked it up, The pod had to be stored for a few weeks until we were ready for it on this end. Showed up, driver dropped it in driveway, we unloaded into the garage in a day and a half, they picked it up two days later right on schedule. It wasn’t super cheap but cheaper than any moving company.

I remember when the ex boss man hired some college kids from his old engineering school in New Jersey, they chipped in together and rented a pod to move down here. Seemed to have worked pretty well for them. Well, until they figured out the boss was a lying POS.

North Idaho is where we will land. Coeur d'alene, Hayden,Sandpoint,Post Falls,St Maries or Moscow. Those are our search areas. Construction work is going pretty strong up there which is why those areas. That's where we will buy to start.

Do those pods have ways to strap items down IE like my BGE cart, tool boxes. Good advice on the heat since yes it will be warm over here during the move.

Remodel work was easier when I was 40. My knees at 50 don't like it too much.

They have screw in eyebolts in the support beams inside. I had rope tied all over the inside holding stuff in place. Honestly, the only damaged item we had was I had a fishing rod lose a rod eyelet. They whole pod process is fairly gentle unless the truck gets in a wreck

This may not work for you; I don't know how far you're moving or how much spare time you have. When I moved I was looking at the expenses of all my options and ended up buying a 16' enclosed cargo trailer. I packed the nonessentials first and stored them in the trailer until it was full, then ran them the 400 miles to a storage facility I leased near the new house. That took a couple of runs. When it came down to the actual relocation I was able to fit the essentials I still had at the old house into one load and moved. After that I sold the trailer for what I had in it. It worked out pretty well for me, moneywise.

I actually spent my high school years up there , graduated from Kellogg HS in the Valley. I have a sister and her family in Spokane. When I retire I will get up that way as much as I can to fish.
