Are you following the recommended techniques or you got your own pattern working Normally, I do follow the recommendation of letting it drop to the bottom, retrieve for a bit, let drop to the bottom, repeat. Today when the fish were higher in the water column, I used a steady retrieve. I'm not sure it made a difference but it worked.

Great report!
I got out there yesterday around Murtell at sunrise. Wasn't very good. I caught only one keeper and five or six shorts.
I left at 10:00 a.m. probably should have gotten there at 10:00 a.m. Day before yesterday when I did pretty well almost all of my fish came between 10:00 a.m. and noon.
I saw those boats out there on Merrill flats and thought about trying to kayak over to that area. But the wind was being a little fickle and I was getting bites... Just not the right size.
I didn't see any shad actively spawning, but they were pretty much everywhere in the area. Actually snagged a couple on a jerk bait.

I took the canoe out of TC park and went lure hunting. Checked a couple of feeder creeks for GV, and picked up a handful of baits. Also, I crossed paths with a youtuber last week in twin coves. I told him i caught catfish fishing the rocks at the mouth of twin coves. He was going to put out some jug lines. I was fishing the mouth of twin, and it was my report where i was catching sandbass & catfish. He made a video, and caught some catfish in Meadomere. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-1116-267381-1000020680.jpg) Location of Lake fork guy catching catfish.

Today when the fish were higher in the water column, I used a steady retrieve. I'm not sure it made a difference but it worked. MAL lures definitely work both with a saw tooth or vertical retrieve. Key is to get that blade turning quickly with a couple of hard/fast turns of the reel handle on tight line then slow it down.

[/quote] Thanks for sharing, Prosise. Good video. Makes me wish I still had my jug lines. I ran into Lake Fork Guy up Denton Creek a couple years ago and ended up in his video briefly. I'll have to find it and share.

a couple of hard/fast turns of the reel handle on tight line then slow it down
The only problem with this method is that 2-3 turns of the handle, depending on the reel gear ratio, is about 6-10 Ft of wasted productive fishing area and multiply that by 3 or 4 times per each cast and that 24-40 Ft that never got properly fished. I use Boblades from MRBaits made by Mark Bovee, they immediately get the blade turning no matter what speed the retrieval speed is, slow or fast.

1 turn on a 6:1 ratio spinning reel with a 2" spool = 27 inches of line taken up.

I think I'll be on the vine tomorrow
Someone coming from tyler area to join. Best place for him to park and pick up at dock? I'll be out on the water already when he arrives. I'd like to help em set up his license plate ahead of time for parking as well
May bug Dan or prosise in txt and see what he says
