Has anyone heard Tic Tac talking about our lakes having not only alge but some kind of virus killing fish in some of our lake? I knew there was some reason the fishing on PK had lost it's appeal to me as catching fish has been the worst I have seen in over 50 year . Is this our problem ? or is this just more B/S

Didn’t dig too deep, but there is LMBV, largemouth bass virus. PK apparently had an outbreak in 2001, do you recall?

Curious where you heard this mentioned? You referenced “Tic Tac” talking about it, but I wasn’t sure if that was a nickname, a podcast, or something else. Do you have a link or a source to the info about this? I want to make sure I’m not missing something. The fishing is worst I’ve seen it. Ever…

PK and Granbury to a lesser degree still struggle with golden algae blooms killing fish. Whitney and the Paluxy river has had some bad kills in the past also, anything connected to the Brazos.

Was at Inks Lake 2 weeks ago and almost 1/2 the lake had an algae bloom going on.

I do not know if this fits but, I went to a meeting years ago about Lake Conroe's lack of vegetation. One of TPWD's own people said that really bad things happen to bodies of water without natural vegetation.

I have always heard that the fertilizers that are used up north towards the panhandle leach down through the Brazos river system and get in PK Lake that causes the Golden algae. Therefore heads down stream to other lakes,

I only know of largemouth bass virus and golden algae. In south Texas, we saw LMBV in Amistad around 2005-8.
I have been reading on the "treated affluent" (treated human waste) dumped into rivers and ending up in our lakes.
On Dunlap, we have seen some strange algae and moss that we haven't had in the past. I am no biologist but there seems to be a correlation to the city of New Braunfels dumping more affluent into the Guadalupe upstream. Last year we had a huge outbreak of duck weed and "witches hair" moss which we had never seen before.
On a side note: New Braunfels stopped the development of 6 new subdivisions since water is in such short supply. Low water and more affluent has to make some sort of difference.....

One of TPWD's own people said that really bad things happen to bodies of water without natural vegetation. Yep, see Purtis creek, once a gem now its a sh#thole. They now have vegetation cages all around the lake with t-post that scratch your boat because you can't see them right under the water because the water color is so bad.

Whitney's bad fish kills co-incided with the gas fracking boom. I once saw a fracking waste water truck down CR1145 with a hose running out of it down to the lake, IDK if he was pulling or dumping water but it made me go hmmm...

The problem is TPWD’s can’t properly manage what they think is the appropriate aquatic vegetation. They should quit trying to get fancy with it, and just let the hydrilla buck. Show me a fish that doesn’t benefit from this perceived horrible invasive. Houston co in its prime was literally choked out with hydrilla, and the fishing was as good as it’s ever been there. Killing off the hydrilla just provides a beautiful space for nasty stuff like salvania to show up, imo.
