The New Bass Pro Shops opens today in Tyler TX, It is on S. Broadway (US 69 South) right before you get to the new Loop 49.
Academy is about 2 blocks away and I know that they have several sales going on starting tomorrow to help them compete. Of course we all know their first step is actually getting some product on the shelves.

They have been increasing inventory over the last 2 weeks and should be well stocked for tomorrow.

It was nice to see that they were finally stocking up after it looked so barren. Too bad it took BPS opening up for them to do something.

If anyone goes to the opening please give us a first hand report. I am interested to know if they actually had to shuttle people from the other side of the Cumberland Village center because of the expected crowds tonight.
I plan to make my initial BPS visits during mid-week morning hours or after 6 pm to avoid the out of town,after work and weekend shoppers.
It will be good to have BPS local although the last several visits I have made to various other BPS locations has resulted in minimal purchases.

We went and had a great time, especially meeting Clark Wendlandt, Jimmy Houston, and Roland Martin. I had met Wade Middleton years ago. They were all as nice as they could be and talked fishing with us as if we were the only people there.

The only negative was crowd control, especially allowing so many people to break in line. We got there at 4:15 and stood in line until the doors opened at around 6:30. The line was well defined, meaning it was easy to see where it was. We were probably 100 people back from the front. As soon as the door opened people from way back in the line rushed over and cut in front of people who should have been ahead of them. It was ridiculous and shameless. I saw 60 year old men who knew better jumping ahead of people who had waited two hours.

It is kind of funny, people around here act like there's not a Bass Pro shops an hour and 15 minutes away from here in Shreveport (or 2 hours away in Grapevine).

Most people (not fishermen) are social creatures who enjoy crowds and events like grand openings, etc.
