Got this text this morning from a buddy fishing Picachos in Mexico...
""The group has 10 people. Now over 4000 bass. It is stupid. I had 303 yesterday with probably 75 fish 3-5 lbs. I had big fish 2 days with 5-15 and a 5-12"".....
having fished Picachos several times,it's like Argentina dove hunting in that "you got to see it to believe it"... they are fishing out of Ron Speeds lodge and there has been no problem in the area from cartels....understand El Salto is closed remainder of the year due to some cartels shooting guns in area but no harm to fishermen...

Numbers are amazing, but lack of size is concerning

I have a private lake where I can go and catch 20-50 a day with most being 2-3lbs. You'll catch a couple that will go better than 5 and occasionally a 8+. As much as I love to fish, I get bored catching dinks with little to no effort.

Numbers are amazing, but lack of size is concerning go catch couple hundred bass in one day with 50 or more 3-5lb fish and that will remove your concern...

Im speaking from past experience. I have been multiple times to El Salto and loved it. Though it cant be denied that catching that many fish is amazing, it has to factor the cost of doing so.
It depends what you want from your trip, I would gladly pay a couple of thousand to have a chance to catch the fish of a lifetime or even a couple 6+lbs.
I was only commenting on the lack of size from the lake comparing it to historic or anecdotal reports. All lakes go through big fish cycles.

Lake is only 10 years old and the average size improves every year. You can fish shallow and catch numbers or ask the guide to fish for big fish, they’re there😀

Bass preferred lure / plastic of choice? Color & size? Or does it make any difference? On my bucket list (age 67)!! Cannot find a friend (Houston, TX area) to go with me due to safety concerns. Contemplating going "solo" but probably less expensive for 2 versus 1. Can only afford 1 trip so need to make it "right".

I've been quite a few times (6/7) the last 2 1/2 years (all at Ron Speeds) and it is simply incredible. You can definitely catch 300+ a day (per boat) if you want to. Just beat the banks with a square bill and get after it. Or you can drop your numbers a little bit and fish deeper. We average 150-200 fish a day (again this is per boat so two anglers) but our average size is 2-4lbs. I'm not a great fisherman so those aren't "dinks" to me. Mostly we use Rage swimmers, jigs, or 6, 8, or 10XD's depending on the depth of the school. The guides fish "spots" and they are either there or they are not so you do a lot of running around until you find them, but when you do it is ON! Each day there are lots of fish in the 4-6lb range and every once in a while, you find a big one. My son caught a 9 on his last cast of the trip on a 7" flutter spoon in 28' of water a year ago and this last trip two weeks ago I caught an 8.1 on an Ocho in 8' of water so you never know. We were supposed to be at Salto but yes that is closed for the time being. The trip to Picachos is incredible and I highly suggest it if you are so inclined to visit Mexico. I've never once, not felt completely safe. I get it if that isn't in your comfort zone though. Heck I won't go hunt a deer across the border here so you'll not find judgement from me. Also, for those considering it, the food is incredible and the rooms are cold, clean, and comfortable. Not 5 star but dang sure good enough for me.

Said they had 162 by 11:36 when they went in for lunch..
Had 315 total and quit before dark..
And hard to guess how many Pacifico's..
