Ford is still using this part and having $12,000 failures.

Not true. Ford is also issuing a recall of almost 300k SuperDuty trucks equipped with this pump.

Lot's of people changing their oil and filter in these two groups.

CP4 is my only beef with my F250. Neither me or any of my buddies with F250 have had a CP4 failure, but it's a known frequent failure item that causes way, way too much damage to still be installing over a decade after they knew about it.

That said, Ford uses a lift pump and Chevy didn't when they had the CP4 even though Bosch recommends one, so the failure rate on chevy is definitely higher, which is why they lost the lawsuit and are paying owners for it.

When I was a sales manager at a Ford dealership the one thing in common on almost every pump failure was sketchy service records of when the filter was last changed. All of them had nasty filters.

The article said the part is not compatible with the fuel. I don't see how changing filters corrects this.

Filter got changed in schedule on my duramax that had a cp4 failure. Did it myself, only used Wix filters, bought fuel at high volume places, etc. Never had a water in fuel light come on. Luckily Chevy was good about warranty work.

Sounds like the CP4 is a ticking time bomb. How hard is it to replace with a different and better fuel pump?

It’s easy, just call Monte Coon.

Not possible on the 6.7 powerstroke to replace with the much more reliable CP3.

You can replace with a DCR pump which is made by S&S, but there are no Bosch options I'm aware of to swap to on the 6.7 powerstroke.

Ram is going from the CP4 to the CP3 on their 6.7 Cummins. They had gone to the CP4 on the 2019 and 2020 model Cummins but are retroactively replacing them all with the CP3.

I think Chevy only used the CP4 from 2011 thru 2016 if I recall. Got away from the CP4 on the L5P motor, smartly.

What motor is in your F250?

6.2L and 7.3L gas motors in the F250 are awesome. Heard good things about the 6.8L newer motor also but no personal experience.

I quit buying diesels 20 years ago and having seen anything that makes me want to try again.
