From President Trump:
Mexico OWES Texas 1.3 million acre-feet of water under the 1944 Water Treaty, but Mexico is unfortunately violating their Treaty obligation. This is very unfair, and it is hurting South Texas Farmers very badly. Last year, the only Sugar Mill in Texas CLOSED, because Mexico has been stealing the water from Texas Farmers. Ted Cruz has been leading the fight to get South Texas the water it is owed, but Sleepy Joe refused to lift a finger to help the Farmers. THAT ENDS NOW! I will make sure Mexico doesn't violate our Treaties, and doesn't hurt our Texas Farmers. Just last month, I halted water shipments to Tijuana until Mexico complies with the 1944 Water Treaty. My Agriculture Secretary, Brooke Rollins, is standing up for Texas Farmers, and we will keep escalating consequences, including TARIFFS and, maybe even SANCTIONS, until Mexico honors the Treaty, and GIVES TEXAS THE WATER THEY ARE OWED!

They need to get in gear and get Amistad dam repaired, they say 3 years,Brown and Root could do it in 3 months. Low water is killing Del Rios economy.

Mexican water gives you the runs....
So how do they stop it? Does the US have full control over releases at Falcon and Amistad?

Mexico has control of its side of the dam and can release water that they own.. And I would guess water that they don't own.. The problem here is that there is very little water in the bank.. They would have to drain their lakes on the Conchos and I'm thinking that still wouldn't do it.. I haven't done the math.. Click this link to see the Mexican reservoirs capacities and their levels.. Boquilla is the only big lake in the chain and it is in the teens as for as percentage full.. Most of the other lakes are pissant sized as far as capacity.. https://ibwcsftpstg.blob.core.windows.net/wad/DailyReports/flowdata.htm

I keep telling you guys....We own Mexico. Serious as a heart attack. We paid 55 billion and called it a bailout.
And you know, nothing is free.
So why are we playing these treaty games? Just come out and tell people. Mexico is our owned and paid for, dirty backyard. North American union.
We also own Canada but that's so touchy feely. The native Canadian population would explode knowing it. Time to take that picture of the king off the wall. Slide one up of Trump.

James is much more of an authority on the issue than I am, but the thing with water in Mexico is that it always comes in bunches. The Conchos flooded in 2023 and Mexico held most of their Conchos dams well above 100% instead of catching up on their water debt. I do think the treaty should be modified to somehow include releases from Sugar and Cuchillo so that there isn't as much pressure on Falcon and Amistad. Not sure how that should be structured to ensure that Falcon and Amistad still get the water they need, but some changes definitely need to be made and those lakes hold a lot of water.

Excuse me if I missed it. I would assume if dumped into Amistad, they’d just let it flow to Falcon?
