Moving to Central Tex in a month or 2. Work will be in Taylor and Pflugerville. Looking at living in Salado, Georgetown, Nolanville and possibly Belton/Temple. Golf/fishing is a necessity as well! Please tell me the good, bad, ugly, and areas I’m missing? $600k max!

Dealing with only Bell County. Belton is the county seat. Where the old money lives. Temple is industrial, full of police, and very colorful. Salado is white flight from Austin.
Nolanville is a blemish on this county. Corruption prone, dirty dirt bags.
You come across as wanting Belton or Salado.

Salado for golf. Georgetown has gotten crazy.

Georgetown prices are a little ridiculous. Salado seems like bang for the buck plus Mill Creek Golf seems ok and reasonably priced. Just don’t know enough about Harker Heights/Belton/Temple.

Harker Heights and Killeen are the cheapest places to live in all the county. Both towns are an acquired taste. It's places that safety is relative.
Killeen leaves you alone. Unless you mess up big. Harker Heights is kinda the same.
In Killeen you get to hear and feel every munition the US Army drops, throws, or explodes. Gunships flying over your house.

I'd look in the Hutto, TX area.
Okie by birth, Texan by choice. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/01/full-47849-80883-111.jpg) USAF "Thunderbirds" Alumni 1985-1989

The only way to get into Hutto and out of it, without losing your mind, is the toll road.
Hutto hippos. HOA everywhere.

Lived in Killeen and Temple when I was in the Army 75-78. Killeen was pretty rough Temple wasn't bad and cost of living was good back then but I also had military benefits. The places I always liked were Lampasas and San Saba. Believe it or not Austin back then was a great place to go.

I don't lock the doors at night. I lock up if I'm going to be more then 20mins away. But nope. I don't have a single fear leaving them unlocked.
Feeling safe is relative. Especially Killeen. It is a rough place. But live and let live is abundant. Everyone has their own situation and they're not about to worry about yours.
People keep getting shot at the, "Clubs".

My daughter and her husband live in Bastrop. Reasonable rent but there is a HOA.
Men are like fish...If we'd learn to keep our mouth shut, we'd stay out of trouble.

Rent until you get a better understanding of areas. I think that’s sound advice.

Our builder (Ben Atkinson) is working on Phase 2 in our neighborhood (Persimmon Springs) in Kempner. Actually 10 mins from Cove so we have good access to conveniences. We are outside city limits so taxes are a little cheaper, big lots, quiet, etc.
Sorry did not see you were working on East Side, but Hutto is FULL as that is where daughter lives.
