I used a buddy’s spinning rig throwing senkos a few weeks ago and now I’ve gotta have my own. Never thought I’d want to invest in a good spinning setup but here we are.
What do y’all like for weightless wacky senkos? I found the Daiwa Kage on sale for $165 at a local tackle store, so I think I’m going to go grab one of those in the 2500 size. Mainly wondering what y’all use for a rod. I’m thinking Dobyns 703 or 713 in the Sierra/Kaden series but I’m open for suggestions. Something in the $150 range but I’ll splurge a bit if it’s worth it. As much as I like Falcon, I can’t get onboard with their spinning rods. The way the grip is designed is asinine.

I have a champion 703 that I use for wacky senko, but I feel it is too light and sometimes it is also too long. I can skip better with the side arm, back hand, and even shoot skip with a shorter rod. I tend to use the wacky setup around docks and like to skip alot. I would like a 683 if it was a little stiffer than the 703 I use a tatula 2500 series and it is the best spinning reel I have ever owned

As much as I like Falcon, I can’t get onboard with their spinning rods. The way the grip is designed is asinine. Well hell! I was gonna 100% recommend a Falcon Lowrider “Shakyhead” spinning rod. I have a few of them, because I like them and they are absolutely a steal at $129. The Daiwa reel is a good choice, but I think a 3000 size is a little better for bass fishing a senko. The slightly larger spool seems to have a little smoother drag and better line management. Either way….slingin’ senkos on a spinner is a blast! I have caught a few DD bass with it last year. Skipping docks is a lot of fun. Make sure you use 20lb braid to a 12lb leader. Which type of leader is personal preference. I like INVISX. But some docks have rusty pilings and maybe ABRAZX might be better. Also, you should try Berkley Fusion weighted wacky hooks (1/16th). Hook the senko exactly behind the “egg sack” and it will drive those fish nuts! Welcome to the “DEI” of bass fishing. I love my spinners with their bright pink braid!

Haven’t fished with one, I’ve only handled one in store and don’t understand it. Why would you want to be holding the rod up above the reel? lol

Haven’t fished with one, I’ve only handled one in store and don’t understand it. Why would you want to be holding the rod up above the reel? lol It makes for a better balance when the reel is attached. Also, the no-grip area above the reel seat makes it easy to use your pointer finger to taper off on a cast…similar to how you would thumb a baitcaster. The guides are nothing fancy, as neither is the reel seat. Just solid Fuji parts on a well made IM8 blank. Low end cork, but it’s still griply when you get fish slime on your hands. Also, new for the last year or so is epoxy decorated ends on the cork. The older ones used rubber check rings that eventually broke. Leaving the reel seat gap exposed. So, Falcon is still tweaking the rod, which is nice to see they aren’t “one and done” with the design. If I had to complain about the Lowrider…the hook keeper is in a bad direction. Every once in a while, on a hard cast, the line will loop pretty big off the spool and land over the hook keeper. It doesn’t impede the cast, just it becomes one other thing to be aware of once you close the bail.

Besides. Nobody holds a rod from the grip. Bait casters you hold the rod by the reel, spinners you hold the rod from the reel seat, with the stem of the reel between your pointer finger(booger hook) and “friend maker” finger. lol.

I guess I need to put a reel on one and actually try it. That just seemed ridiculous at first glance

NRX+872s with a Shimano Stella Not a bad “middle of the road” setup. You should try the new Steez Reel Control rod with an Exist.
