Never. So they wouldn't have a framework to understand whether introducing pickles, something else they probably don't have, would make sense in such a savory prep.

This is why we Brits took an administrative position in India. Too cold in England to grow chiles/peppers; but we did learn to make spicy curry from the warmer countries in the Commonwealth…..respectfully of course.
