I’m thinking about updating my wardrobe and am wanting to get measured for a nice suit. I don’t have to wear them often but I want something a little nicer than off the shelf. I stopped in Dillards the other day and they had a couple of brands that range from around $400 to $800. I’d basically pick out everything I wanted in the suit and it would be made and sent to me in a few weeks. Any suit aficionados here that want to give me some guidance?

Funerals, court, weddings. If you don’t plan on going to any of those paces, don’t get a suit.

Other than my service dress from the military I’ve never owned one.

I wear a suit maybe five or six times a year. I'm not an aficionado, I'm good with off the shelf.

The look you want will probably depend on your age. I see younger newscasters wearing suit styles that fit like they are two sizes too small. I guess that's the current style. I'm older, so the last one I bought was a Hart Schaffner Marx suit from Dillards in a classic fit.
Like others above have said, there are very few places that I would consider wearing a suit and tie these days. For funerals and weddings, I wear a sport coat and an open shirt. That's also my choice when I take the little lady out to a very special restaurant.

I have purchased several form Men's Warehouse. They can tailor it there as well.

I’m 50 so I definitely don’t want to go with the look some of the younger people wear. I looked at a Hart Schaffner Marx suit at Dillard’s that was really nice for like $800. They had another brand too that was around $400 per suit. I think it was called Alton Lane.

Haven’t worn one since 2008 at my dads funeral. I don’t wanna wear another one.
