We had a reserve wing of F-4D's. The standard loadout was a gun or targeting pod centerline, two inboard drop tanks and munitions outboard. After i left the changed to F-4E's. After they retired them they put one on static display at a local park. I see it has an internal gun, but the munitions racks took like the practice ones and there are no external tanks. What was their "standard" loadout?

For air to air, our Lakenheath F-4D's usually carried 2 370 gal. fuel tanks on outbd. wing stations. Gun pod on centerline. 4 AIM 7's on the fuselage & 2 Aim 9's on each wing inbd station pylon.

Air to mud configuration was a whole different deal.

You are correct. I got the wing loading backwards. I was surprised to see the E with no external fuel.

The answer is "it depends on the mission".

1) Air defense load out in the F-4E was 2 x 370 gallon wing tanks on the outboard pylons, 1 x 600 gallon center line tank, 4 x AIM-9E, 4 x AIM-7E/M & 650 rounds of HEI in the M61A-1 Gatling gun

2) Air to Air load out in the F4E was 4 x AIM-9E, 3 x AIM-7E/M & 650 rounds of HEI in the M61A-1 Gatling gun, and a jammer in the left forward AIM-7 missile well, no tanks so you could pull up to 8 G's

3) Air to ground was normally 2 x 370 gallon wing tanks on the outboard pylons, 4 x AIM-9E on 2 inboard shoulder stations, 3 x AIM-7E/M & 650 rounds of HEI in the M61A-1 Gatling gun, a jammer in the left forward AIM-7 missile well, and 3 x 500lb MK-82's on the 2 inboard pylons. You could also carry and additional 6 x Mk-82's on the center line station. We would swap the jammer to the right forward missile well and carry a Laser designator in the left forward missile well to drop LGB's.

4) F-4G Suppression of Air Defenses load out was 1 x 600 gallon center line tank, 4 x AIM-9E on 2 inboard shoulder stations, 3 x AIM-7E/M, 4 x AGM-88 High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM's) and a jammer in the left forward AIM-7 missile well. The center line tank in the F-4G model was stressed to aircraft limits, so you wouldn't have to jettison in a high G situation.

5) You could swap out the 6 MK-82's for 6 x AGM-65 Maverick missiles, or for Mk-83's (750lb) or Mk-84's (1,000Lb) in lessor quantities.
