I took the classes online but still had to qualify at a range and do fingerprints.

There was/is a state where you can get it online and use it in Texas if you wanted to get one online.

Two huge advantages to having the LTC: If you travel, your permit travels also, as long as you're not going someplace whacked like California or New York, your legal to carry. No background checks when purchasing.

Reciprocity, for starters. I have friends with combinations of state carry licenses to maximize it. I think West Virginia is one you can get completely online except the fingerprinting by your local agency.

I’ve had mine since it was first offered around 1995 or 96. So yeah, I can do mine on line now, but I believe the first couple or three times when I renewed, I had to go to a half-day class.

I've had mine since 2000. Makes it handy when buying a firearm and the reciprocity when traveling and visiting other red states. I can say that in the past 25 years of carrying concealed legally in many different places, I have never been asked or searched for firearms. So, the only time you would be in jeopardy is if you had to pull it and shoot someone.

I just assume in Texas everyone is carrying a gun. Remember the old man in hell or high water? Loved it when the kids said “you got a gun old old man” and he responded “you’re damn right I do”..🤣

LTC is for Yankees that don't know how to shoot or know the law on self protection.
As for purchasing a firearm. I have that big star in the corner of my DL. Buying private sales for two reasons. No tax and it being nobodies business about what I buy.

If you get busted at the airport you probably just gonna get a ticket and allowed to carry on with your travels, less pistol. I suspect without LTC you gonna visit jail until you get out on bond.

Airport: License holders have protections related to the accidental carrying of a firearm in the secured area. Business: Businesses may choose to allow licensed carry on their premises. Government Meetings: License holders can carry in a meeting. University Campuses: License still required to carry on university campuses; “Campus Carry” is unchanged. https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/handgun-licensing/ltc-benefits

Y'all know they sell TSA approved...locking cases. If you forget it's on your hip. Having to explain it to the nice TSA agent.
You need to reevaluate your situation.

If you even care, you'd be shocked at how many people have no clue what laws and responsibilities pertain to carrying a firearm. Just for the tutorial on the laws, it's worth the trouble. "Grandpappy always said" is not a valid defense if you get into a jam. We have the right to keep and bear arms. But that right, like any other, comes with responsibilities. A lot of people fail to acknowledge or honor those responsibilities.
