So I've been making frequent trips to my brother's ranch with the kiddos, and there is a creek that runs through with several deep holes that hold some surprisingly big fish. We have spent a few great afternoons there catching lure-dumb fish, but transport of rods and reels is a real pita. No buildings on the ranch, so I have to be able to bring it back and forth with me, and once there the gear has to travel in a gator or quad to the fishing holes. Right now I am just using 2-piece spinning gear traveling loose in the cab. They end up in a tangled mess that has to be undone before fishing, and it is only a matter of time before we start breaking rod tips and eyes. Must be 2-piece due to space constraints.
So my challenge to the OT is how to make (or buy) a storage/transport system that can handle 4 or 6 combos of 2-piece rods without removing the reels.

Get a long rifle case? Or multiple long soft sided cases that will zip closed over the reels

Or…..get two foam mattress pads. Mattress pads are around $30. Cut them to size You can try a sandwich method or a burrito/roll method. Then six extra long zip ties to secure the mattress pads/rod and reel mattress pad burrito.

Or, use gear snake instead of zip ties. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-30144-264729-img_0336.jpeg)

R U transporting in the back of a PU truck?
Take the reels off. Put them in 4" PVC tubes with screw caps. Or leave the reel end outside the tube.
I carried 6 rods easily in a 4" pvc. It only takes 10 minutes to put 6 reels back on the rods and thread them an tie the lures on. Not a huge deal breaker if rod protection is the goal. Reels go into a small cloth tool bag.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

You can use the same contraption above with this bell reducer/increaser to accommodate the reels: 4" X 8" bell reducer

Yes, being able to remove the reels makes this challenge much easier. Other option. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-30144-264731-img_0337.jpeg)

They actually make cases for two-piece spinning rods with a larger pouch for the spinning reels. They have a fabric-covered hard tube for the rod. I believe I've seen them at Cabelas or Bass Pro.

We used to carry the little short rods with zebco 33's into the flooded timber of the Angelina River around Nacanowhere fishing for spawning whites. These aren't the little whites from the big lake, these girls pull. Anyway, that small outfit might be easier to transport. Instead of casting, we could slingshot the jigs under the brush. Otherwise, I think the pvc tube thing would work. Might want to figure out a way to line the inside if you are particular with your rods.
