I used to think I was pretty good at tracking them down before, during or after spawn.....LOL...Apparently not so much these days. I have been to Chambers 3 times now with a bunch of nothing. Week and half ago creek temp was 59-60.....yesterday was hitting 71 mid morning....carp had banks covered, shad flipping everywhere, snakes were out, Blue cat were there, trees blooming...fished deep, shallow etc. pulled out one small one. Talked to another fellow and he said same thing.....big nothing....So I threw net some shad and fished for Blues.....Uggghhh

Catching mostly males in shallow water along retaining walls in 1-3 feet of water at Cedar Creek. Some pretty ones, but after cleaning more than 25 past few days, I've only cleaned a few females with eggs. Water temps over 70, so it's happening ... slowly.

IDK......I live on Joe Pool and there is a creek there that crappie spawn in during winter....We have caught crappie end of Feb. at RC but was typically after a mild winter and it just got better over next few weeks. Anyone I have talked with down there says have not spawned yet and waiting. Guess I will try it a few more times then just switch to Blues..LOL

Two trips on Belton; fished shallow and out to 10FOW and 2 crappie. Today water temp 64-67, shad on the bank early, not one crappie bite. Saw one fish on a big lay down in 8FOW that looked like a crappie but swam off as the jig went down. All the other brush, didn't even see a fish except for shad and bluegills. I fished plenty of places that have always held spawning crappie. Got me stumped. I may have to go after white bass to get a pull on the rod.

Glad it's not just me. Palestine has also been a head scratcher. Some others have expressed same issues.

I believe part of the slow times is the abundance of shad. They are full all the time.

I've been to Chambers twice this spring .... got 5 on the first trip & 6 on the second. Did you catch any Blues?

Good Luck,
Bozz

We caught seven blues later in the day after I gave up on crappie.....threw net some shad and managed those blues....they were almost white and cold.....coming in from deeper water I suppose. We were fishing in 3-4 ft. and they should just get better from now on.

I think it's on. I caught 96 keeper size 3 trips in 5 to 8 ft on laydowns.
