Today was fishing for white bass at brazos. Tossing a 1/8 oz underspin with creme spoiler shad. She grabbed it with no thump. Fought her for about 15 seconds and was gone. A few minutes later casting in the same spot, and the fight was on. 6 lb high vis yellow mono and a 4 foot 10 b&m ultralight rod. It took awhile to wear her down and we were shocked when she surfaced. Is it uncommon for them to go after lures? Never once caught a carp other than with cast net ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/03/full-49806-264495-1000061048.jpg)
Don't eat the black bass on grapevine.
Trust me.

Carp are sometimes caught on lures, but they are often fowl hooked. I catch them fly fishing all the time. They sample food items by touching them and they are very good at determining if an item is a lure.

I personally have not caught a carp on a lure but know anglers who have caught them on lures. They are great fighters indeed.

Houston County Lake.....largest freshwater fish I have ever caught was a 13lb carp on an ultra-lite rod with 6lb test with a Road Runner. That fish pulled my bass boat around and thought the rod was going to break. Hooked in the mouth. You just never know.
