I am transitioning from Circle hooks to Kahle style hooks. Really don't like removing hooks from the corners of a catfish's mouth. The hinge is important to the fish if you release it for being too big.

I’ve been using 8/0 and 10/0 offset circle hooks but today changed my mind on that. I hooked 5 big cats. I got 2 in the boat. One almost 24lbs and one just shy of 20lbs. It takes a 20+ fish to pull drag on my reels so I have a pretty good idea about their sizes. One was an absolute brute. Two shakes of his head and the hook came out while he was peeling line off my reel. When I lost the first two, I switched from 8/0 to 10/0. When I lost the big one, I straightened out a 10/0 and caught the last fish. The last three big ones (25-35) had a 10/0 hook barely buried in their teeth lines. Tomorrow will be a trip to Olsen’s Pro Am store for big, straight hooks.

Try this hook. Even though it is only 5/0 it is a pretty capable hook.

Thanks. Looks a lot like what I bought today. This one is 9/0. I also bought 6/0. I have high hopes.
