Its hard to beat a good fun day on the water with no stress, a lot of fish catches and not being on a time clock. I didn't know how happy fishing could make me until I put tournaments on the back burner in a major way. Wished I had of learned this sooner. Trust me Im as mad at them as ever and always on the water before daylight when I fish but when I put the boat on the water its just me against the fish and its brought me more joy and its made me 10x a better fishermen.

Ohhh. I wanna brag. I entered 5 tourneys so far this year. I won one of them. Got my [censored] kicked in the other four. Left three of them before weigh in

I didn’t even pay for my gas to the tournament that I won.

There isn’t less tournaments. You can go to three or four a week if you want

I have lost interst. The small ones are terrible math. I made a choice the last few years to be more fair weather about it, I'm not fishing in the rain, I'm not gonna go out and freeze and I'm not gonna go out and get blown around in 30 mph winds. I'm not gonna spend a bunch on gas and hotels on some lake I don't like to give money to the locals that fish it weekly. Basically if the weather is nice, it's one of the lakes I like then I might. Beyond that I'm chasing crappie or fun fishing. You are on this earth x amount of days and I'm not gonna spend mine in miserable weather and if you decide to schedule a tournament before march best of luck cause I'm out.

Started the year with the same two circuits I fish every year. The good scopers lapped the field. I can’t compete with them so I’m not gonna donate to them. I’m done with tournaments. Just going fishing and having fun

That’s the spirit!

You only want to fish if you think it’s money in the bank. Forget the reason of a tournament in the first place….to get better.

Fun fishing is fun, but fishing with a little money on the line is “funner” and it makes you concentrate and try a little harder.

This. There is nothing better than spending 90 percent of your time on the water in good conditions. Hell my boat saw white caps for the first time in 6 months a couple Saturdays ago lol

I cashed checks in 4 of my last 5 and it hasn’t even covered gas money

Yep. Think you just answered another reason the trails are down… and you are one of the succusful and consistent ones. Just think of the others. Big difference fishing your local pond down the road and driving 2 hours to cedar creek.

Drove an hour and a half last weekend and took 3rd. Barely covered entry fee let alone the $100 spent in gas

The only "smaller" tournaments that were ever good (money wise) for us were the working mans at our home lake. 5 min from the house and we won a lot over the 10 years or so we fished them. They were $80 to enter and usually had 20-30 boats and paid $600-800 to win, plus a side pot.

Lots of evenings the winners took home over $1K, not bad for a few hours 5 min from home.

Club tournaments got to where you could not even cover gas and entry unless you won and then you might make $50-75 a piece after expenses.

I still enjoy tournaments, but I find myself enjoying a good, fun fishing, no-pressure day on the lake more than I used to. I don't need to put my best 5 in the livewell and take a photo for fb anymore, those days are behind me. I simply enjoy being outdoors. In the grand scheme of things, winning tournaments doesn't matter.

I’m concerned where both those clubs are headed.

Go buy you a pontoon and see how much you fish! I bet we put twice the number of hours on our pontoon last year as we did on the bass boat!
