I've got a 10 day vacation coming up in 2 weeks and plan on spending every waking moment of it at Port A fishing. What's the tropcal storms going to do for the fishing?? should I cancel?? In the past I've always been ahead of the storms but not this time.

let the tides move all the fresh water out and ya'll should be fine.. Fresh water doesn't effect redfish like it does the others just makes the water muddy.

I heard from someone a while back that a storm brings the fish in. Does anyone know if that is true?

The tides will not be able to pull out the frest water. Offshore fishing and bay fishing as been sub par all year long on the coast, as a whole due to the rains.
The salinity of the water is completely off it's marker and the fish are hanging out in deeper waters. Not redfish, like someone said earlier, but just about everything else.
Honestly, I would cancel your vacation and come back down in late Sept or Oct.

If you fish after specs, reds, flounder, and whiting I'm not sure how bad those species are affected by storms. I go down there twice during the summer/fall when there are good reports about clear water fish such as kings, spanish macerel, bonita running in close. Any large storm in the gulf will cause flood tides in TX which will cover the beach & dunes and also churn the seaweed up to the surface. With all this xtra trash mixed in the blue water line may move out 10,15-20+ miles and the species that feed in the cleaner water I'm told. I don't venture out to far in my 18' boat so I usually wait 2 week after a big storm. If the gulf stays calm the surf settles the blue water may move back in in a week or 2.
