Texas. Written by James Michener Anything from Michener. Chesapeake, The Source, Mexico, Space, others. They are Novels, thus fiction, but all are highly based on real events. Michener as an author, would often physically move to the central location of the novel, to be able to gather real data from the local. Most of his stories take a location, then he tells you about what happened as time passed through the location. The Source tells about everything that led up to present Middle East. From when cavemen roamed through about the Six Days War. Including detail about how the Crusades started and what they did. GREAT BOOK. I will try The Source thanks

A book I read as a young adult that spurred my desire to travel was “Travels with Charley” by John Steinbeck. Not his best or his most popular, but I still pull it out on occasions and read it again. That book is great How about when he gets to Texas

I don't do the common western novels. They are all basically the same book with very slight variations. First you meet the good guy, the good guy goes to town or the ranch. Good sees hot female, bad guy shows up, sees hot female, good guy ends up usually killing the bad guy in a gun fight, and then he either rides of into the sunset with the girl, or leaves her broken hearted and still rides off into the sunset.

my aunt gave me Kon Tiki when i was about 10 years old....Thor Heyerdahl wrote about a group of explorers who built a raft and let the ocean currents and wind carry them from south america to Polynesian islands...back then we didn't have TV or video games so I must have read that book and Tom Sawyer several times...probably inspired me to travel down rivers in a jon boat... I enjoyed that book and another by Heyerdahl, Fatu Hiva. In fact, I had the opportunity to visit Fatu Hiva 20 years ago and it was like the Garden of Eden. What an amazing place.

I worked with a guy once that asked me What years in time would I pick if I could go back or forward to? He told me he would be in the old west, I asked him why? He said there was just something about riding into a strange town, Throwing down a few whiskey shots, Picking out a female and taking her upstairs, Taking care of business, leaving her shaking like a leaf in the wind. coming down the stairs and Throwing down a few more whiskey shots and riding off in the sunset. I told him he had been reading too many Longarm novels.

I will start by saying I am a prolific reader and average 3-4 books a week, mostly free stuff on prime for my kindle, hard to name one favorite book,or even author, but if i had to chose just one it would probably be one of Tom Clancys early novels simply because of the sheer.volume and the way he had so much going on with different stories within a story but brought them all together in the end,his two best were Hunt for Red October, and Sum of all fears IMHO Honorable mentions Stephen Hunter Dirty White Boys,or any of the Swagger books John Sandford Anything he wrote Lee Child Any of the reacher series John Grissom The pelican Brief

Sum of All fears was down right scary because it could actually happen. For shear volume and huge reads try Brandon Sanderson. Most of his audio books exceed 60 hours.
