Never heard of it. I will say they could do away with that giant section regarding scholarships if they paid cash. There is zero reason these trails aren't just paying the kids cash. None, zero, nada, zilch. Has zero effect on eligibility for anything.

Agree 100%. I have captained dozens of tournaments in both THSBA and SETX over the past 7 years and both are run extremely well for the most part and mostly staffed by tremendous volunteers. But imho SETX has a leg up due to paying $$ instead of scholarships.

Until high school bass fishing is recognized by the U.I.L. it does not matter how or what they pay or put up as a "prize". High school bass fishing is a club sport only. In no way does that diminish anything about providing the outlet for high school kids especially with the explosion of college teams across the nation. The TX HS Bass Assoc seems to be well thought out and managed. Obviously there are others across the state too.

My son opted not to fish High school this year because of it. He fishes some local jackpot stuff with me, we do a youth adult deal. I usually let him keep whatever we win an he likes that plan much better.

Great father/son time AND monetary reward. Sweet deal.

My son had the same thought as well. even though this is his senior year, he did not want to deal with some of the team drama along with the tournament drama as well. He wants to stick to the money tournaments that he fishes.

I don't see the drama.
They stated their stance, feel free to play or not play.
I know some kids who are chasing the "money" instead of scholarships. I also know kids that do both.

I agree. I will say since SETX was mentioned, there is a lot of drama with them also. A couple big teams are dropping out this year and doing their own thing within their team(s). A majority of the teams within the schools didnt want to fish with SETX anymore because of hows its been run the last couple years.

If they were to pay cash, then they couldn't keep the entry fees in their bank earning interest until winners claim their scholarships.

Follow the money folks.

so what are you trying to say? The books are available to be seen. Do you have a better way to do this or do you wish to just sit behind a keyboard and take shots?
I've seen the books. Every penny is accounted for.

It kind of feels like SETX has fallen off in recent years. It seems like participation has fallen off more than it has with THSBA. I wonder why?

We were on Rayburn for THSBA the other weekend and I heard SETX was there too but I never could find anything about them.
