Checking to see who would be recommended for Ultrex 112 service around Tyler, TX. Had a catastrophic failure today. Everything all good then hit a stump while turning with the foot control in the wind......Afterwards there was grinding coming from the steering module then the shaft stopped turning and the foot pedal locked up. Power all good and prop motor spins fine......Took the steering module apart and the steering module motor was loose and fell out. Two of the screws holding the motor in came out and the other two were loose. The gear the motor went into was also loose and had some scaring on the teeth obviously from a loose screw. That gear also came out but will not go back in. It's like something bent or is warped. Steering module motor spins with direct power but pedal still locked up. Cables all good and steering sensor was upgraded/replaced a couple of years ago.

Brian at Sartin Marine or Chuck at Texas Trolling Motor on Fork can fix it. Probably a gear box and a control board.

Couldn't wait......I torn down the steering module. Reset all the gears and remounted the motor. Checked power to motor with external battery. Gears turn as they should in both direction now. Shaft moved easily by hand but not by foot pedal. Checked to see if remote would steer. No go. Checked voltage at control board to steering module. Reading - volts and at power .5 volts. Checked steering module motor amps to ensure steering motor was not bad and running solid .48 amps. I had already replaced the steering sensor a couple of years ago and ruled it out since the remote didn't work. Seems this puts it squarely on the control board. Ordered and hopefully will have it in time to get installed and be back on the water by the weekend. I just couldn't wait...........

My TM is currently with Chris at NTX Elite Marine. They have been nothing but great to work with. Started out with a fried control board, which led down the line to my brushes completely disintegrating. No noise out of it, working one day, the next not. Must have been going out and I had no clue.

Sartin must have a really good relationship with MinnKota. I was always shocked what he could get done under warranty with my old ultrex. I wouldn't take my Ultrex to anyone else.

Need someone down here in Houston area also. Went to Gulf Coast Trolling Motor today at FTU guy told me the tech quit and they are waiting on local Minn Kota rep to send a guy to them. Big city like this and no one works on them.

Guy at work was extremely upset with Minn Kota on Monday. He was on the phone giving them the business. Yesterday he went and saw Chuck at Texas Trolling Motors. Today he was the happiest guy in the building.
