I have had a Glock 19 on my nightstand for years but an occurrence last night has changed everything. I am an extremely active dreamer/sleeper. I kick, punch, and yell pretty much every night. Around 3:30 this morning I awoke with my Glock in my hand, my wife was sound asleep beside me and never knew anything happened. I was/am horrified that this occurred. As most know, Glocks have no safety other than the little spur on the trigger and I had my finger inside the trigger guard. No Idea what I was dreaming but I could have easily fired the weapon, possibly wounding my wife of 42 years or worse. much worse. My dilemma now is do I replace the Glock with a gun that has a manual safety, such as my S&W Shield which would pretty much would require me to be awake to release the safety. Maybe get a bedside gun safe that would involve a groggy me to enter a code or some other step that burns precious seconds when those seconds really count. I'm leaning toward putting the Shield in my bedside drawer with safety on. The Glock has always laid on top of the nightstand for easy access but last night finished that for certain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that having a manual safety that you train with won’t prevent you from disengaging it in your sleep. The weapon needs to be where you can’t access it in your sleep

I just purchased a nightstand gun safe for my son in law. It can be opened by key, fingerprint, code or bluetooth. Pretty cheap for $60 off Amazon. That would require you to be awake enough to open it if needed.
The only difference between a little girls scream and a warrior's battle cry is the direction your'e running!

Can you put it in the nightstand? This ^^ I keep mine in the drawer of the night stand…if needed, It’s just there to get me to the shotgun in the closet anyway.

Don't chamber a round in the Glock. Keep it in Condition 3. It won't slow you down enough to matter having to rack the slide.
Other option is a heavy New York trigger. That's if want to continue keeping the weapon in Condition 1.

Dang. Not sure how old you are but I doubt instances like this are a 1 off. No disrespect intended.

Concealment nightstands. I have one for each side of the bed. Here's some examples... ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/03/full-61315-263819-stupid_webp_concealment.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/03/full-61315-263820-stupid_webp_concealment_2.jpg)

I would remove the hand gun from the bedroom and depend on the shot gun in the closet. Then if you start sleep walking remove the shot gun.
That's just me though. I couldn't live with myself if I hurt my wife. But that's why you posted this.

Either you are setting up an alibi for when you snuff out the old lady or you need a bedside gun safe. Depending on your age, it’s probably best to just get the safe. If you are still young, set all of your assets into good long term investments and put that into a trust and get out of prison 30 years from now financially set. If you are in the mid to upper 40s just get the safe.

Wow, sounds terrifying. I would be more wary of hurting someone unintentionally than a much lesser chance of a break in.

If not, I know a good lawyer.
