these? Having a haz mat clean up today here in town and this is one of many of the old cardboard oil cans I had. Cool, but totally useless by today's standards.

What kind of old gems do y'all have hanging around?

I have my Grandfathers big tool chest. He was the paint and body man for a Chevy dealership since the 40's. There's all manners of stuff in there, a lot of it homemade to do some particular task. Amazing stuff actually.

I remember the pleasing thunk sound of pushing that pointed spout into those. My pops would give me that job when he was changing the oil in the cars

anybody remember the old glass jars of used oil they would sell at service stations back in 40's and 50's....service stations also used pour spouts for the oil cans and glass jars...cars used a lot of oil back then epecially when they got a lot of miles on them.....most cars were worn out by the time they reached 100,000 miles....tires lasted maybe 20,000 miles and spark plugs maybe 10,000 miles...

I remember those. If you didn't get the spout seated correctly it leaked like crazy.

Pat, do us TFF family a solid and post some pic’s. I remember my G’pa’s tool chests…one for mechanical/ car stuff and 2 others for woodworking tools. Dang, I still remember the smell of his workshop. A mixture of pipe tobacco and wood chips/shavings. Thanks cheers

Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.

Clearing out some old reloading supplies when I moved and found some nearly empty one pound cans of powder. One of them, a can of Hercules 2400, still had the price tag on it. It was $2.95. Been a long time since powder was that cheap. On several other cans the lab ls and price tags were too faded to read.

I just looked up the current price of a pound of 2400 on Midway USA’s site. $53.99.

I remember the Havoline cans had a big red dot. Made a good target for a BB gun

Used and leaked oil like crazy. Back then, every parking lot space had a hump from all the oil dripping. That is what I slipped on while playing 2 below football before our scout meeting and shattered my kneecap. Foodway parking lot about 1969 or '70. Beartrap was exactly right about cars being totally wore out at 100,000 miles. Most had to rebuild motors when between 50,000-70,000 miles. I laugh when people nowdays say they wished cars were like back in the 60's-70's so they could at least work on em. Yeah, you definitely would work on em, all the time. I also want to get a 60's or early 70's car but I would also rather have a modern drivetrain. I have had several cars and trucks from the 90's and newer surpass 300,000 and still be in good shape. I'd love to have a 70 Chevelle with a crate motor with well over 400 h.p. and a 6 speed trans.
