Week ago did a number on the end of my thumb with a one-hand 5# sledge breaking up a concrete block. Concrete split, chisel went with split and sledge went 1:1 on the thumb. Damm good thing it broke the skin, bled like a head wound, or the thumb would've swollen up like a cantaloupe. Doesn't look pretty but doesn't look or feel bad enough to see the doc about it. I've got an appointment scheduled end of April anyway.
Question - About how long will it take for full feeling to return? The fleshy part is getting better, the purple blood splotch is pretty much gone (except for under the nail), but anything nail-related still feels weird. "Numb" doesn't quite explain it, there's some feeling there and weird is the best I can describe it.
I assume it killed the nail and I'll have to put up with regrowing a new one.
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

Just soak in cider every night and it will heal quicker...

If there is nerve damage it will be a slow heal. They will usually grow back, but it may take a while. Good luck.

If you still have pressure under the nail, I’d lance it.

If you still have pressure under the nail, I’d lance it. Yup, and it will take 6 months to grow the new nail

I think this all depends on a lot of things. Age, health, etc.

I smashed my index finger on the tip good in my early 30s and it took over a year for the pain to completely go away. I couldn't get it hot or cold or it would hurt this went on for a long time. When I smashed it I thought I cut it off for good.

Treat it with fox urine which contains healing elements including pheromones, akaloids and peptides.
Don’t get the powdered kind either, it doesn’t work as well.

I smashed my thumb replacing a u joint on my sons Dodge truck when he was 16. I wrapped electrical tape around it and kept working. I lost the feeling on the pad of my thumb. He's 35 now, I still cant feel that part of my thumb.....

I'm 3 yrs into a healing thumb. The skin under the nail still hasn't filled in. Probably have another year to go before it gets close.
