Well the wind is your friend and the fish are biting. Spot lock is the savior.

Years ago we got caught on Fork with 45 mph gusts from the west/south west. Man those fish were biting but the ride in when we got to the main lake was not cool and it was the end of that trip. This was late Feb and damn that water was cold!

Fork is one of those sneaky rough lakes. It's doesn't have a reputation for it like certain others but it's gotten my attention several times. And like a miniature Toledo bend you don't always have any options for how to run it.

That was our issue. We were up the west arm tucked in a creek. When we came out of the creek we had to run south with 45 mph cross winds and waves to get back to Lake Fork Marina. With the boat lane being on the easterly side we couldn’t do anything to get out of it. When we came out of the creek and turned south and I saw the wave coming was above my friends head while seated in the drivers seat I said a lot of four letter words and held on for the slow, wet and cold ride back in.

On the other hand Ray Roberts isn’t sneaky at all and those dudes are nuts for being on it in the winds we have had. That lake can get nasty.
