I think they do alot better in open water, bouncing off trees all day breaks em down quick. A crappie buddies guides with one and he has 3 so hopefully one won't be in the shop. You couldn't give me an electric steer motor. He's had to swim for the boat once unloading it with nobody in it and it wouldn't deploy. That said he likes it enough to have 3 versus going a different route. I went from an Ultrex to an Ultrex Quest. When I would use the ulterra in that manner I always went ahead and deployed it on the trailer and then trimmed it up to the highest setting, a lot less to go wrong at that point

Mine is 8 years old and still going strong#80 lb. I've been lucky cause I've tagged several stumps. I bought it because I have a bad back. I use the remote. Foot control is still in plastic in a rod box. I have had to swim after the boat a couple times launching it but it was user era. Just make you've turned the power on and its not strapped Down

They are great as long as you don't run your batteries low. I have buddies that have had issues stowing their trolling motors if they ran their batteries low.

Had one for two years, replaced trim module once and had to manually stow it once.
Really liked it and launching solo was absolutely phenomenal with the remote control.
Got rid of it because mega 360 and an ulterra just weren’t compatible. I took really good care of it, and I was surprised at how durable it was.

If there is a physical reason you can’t deploy a trolling motor go for it. Ultrex is superior in every way

Trim down, steer to a quiet area, and spot lock. It was always wild to me just how well that worked.

Guy looked at motor and noticed be put the washer on the prop on backward which is where the water got in. He replaced all seals again and then it would come on but not steer. He replaced the control board (?) under warranty and said it works fine. This about 2 hours after I dropped it off too. Shout out to Nick at Gulf Coast Trolling Motors Houston!!
He told me he runs an Ulterra personally and said BPS had deal going where you can get one for 12 months no interest. I am planning to go look into that and just get one for the next time something happens, I mean it is a boat so it is inevitable!!
Watch it happen, make it happen, or say what the hell happened. Capt. Phil Harris F/V Cornelia Marie RIP

They are great as long as you don't run your batteries low. I have buddies that have had issues stowing their trolling motors if they ran their batteries low. I'd be a rich man, if I had $10 for every time someone came in saying their Ulterra wouldn't stow/deploy, and it turned out to be the customer's batteries. "I have brand new batteries!" When the customer would come back to pick up his TM, we would have to put it back on our batteries and prove it to him. We could have easily made up something and charged the customer, but we didn't roll like that. Get an Ultrex. They are a solid TM.
