I have two 12-volt AGM batteries wired in series for my trolling motor. Is it better to charge them with a single 24-volt charger or a 2 bank 12-volt charger hooked to each battery? The internet seems to say a single 24-volt charger, but why then is every new bass boat sold with multi bank chargers wired to each battery?

Not sure what internet you're using that says a single 24v. You need a 2 bank 12vdc, preferably 10a per bank or more.

Two 12-volt batteries linked in series is effectively one 24-volt battery system. You absolutely can charge the batteries this way. It's just not clear to me if this is in any way better or worse than charging them independently on a two-bank system. like I said the internet doesn't seem clear on the matter. Some sites say it's the better way other say it's not, nothing is saying its in anyway dangerous.

It is preferred to charge them independently with 1 bank each, especially if you are running lithiums. It's not dangerous or risky to charge them at -in series- at 24v, the charger , it's just better for the charger to be able to allow each battery to balance without getting cut off.

I decided to go the two-bank route.

After googling it last night, definitely lots of conflicting info. I guess I don’t grasp in my head how you can put 24volts into 12v batteries. I understand the series puts 24+ out at the end, but there’s still 2 - 12v batteries receiving 24v when on the charger.

It's the elevated voltage over their current state and the flow of current will charge the batteries in series.

2 12v in series = dual 12v charger 2 12v in parallel = dual 12v charger or 1 12v charger which can charge both but a longer time 1 24v battery = 1 24v charger

Been using the one charger theory on golf carts forever. 6 batteries and a single charger. Could be 36 or 48 volt.

I would use a separate charger for each battery or a two bank charger, which would be the same thing.. Especially with today's smart chargers, The only way a charger can get accurate feedback from the battery to the charger is to have a separate charger or "bank".

I could use a really bad analogy to explain this, then you’d DEFINITELY choose a two-bank charger. But, you’d get offended.
A bank pre battery is the correct way to charge them.
