I don't remember the brand of my first computer, but it used the old DOS system.

Don't remember model name. IBM with 2 5.25 floppy drives in early 80s. First personal computer at company. Used it to create a job order costing system for truss divisions in Quattro Pro. Still remember some of the if statements were 4 cells.

Don't remember my first office computer but a couple years later I was the first in my company to get the Compaq Portable. Cost over $3,000 in 1986 dollars, weighed nearly 30 pounds and had about an 8 inch diameter screen. I remember my spreadsheets going from VisiCalc to Quattro Pro to Excel.

Yep,1982.

I helped develop it, mechanically. Started at IBM in 1978.

Working for CDC (Control Data Corp) in the early 80s was a mainframe company but I was in the IBM plug compatible
area, maintaining a corporate data center near UTD-Dallas, I bought a 'clone' from Dr.PC on Belt Line Rd. in Richardson.
I proceeded to learn MS-DOS, then I used PC-File to build a database in the field to track headcrashes on CDC 33502
disk drives' head/disk assemblies..
Corporate CDC poo-pood my use of the PC, said they had all the data they needed. 6 months later I was nominated
for and won the "Shark" award for submitting the data to the MPI division of CDC - which they adopted to rewrite the
microcode to "jog" the r/w heads more often thereby distributing the head-to-platter lubricant more frequently.
Got me a weekend in Minneapolis for the awards ceremony and then a 3-day junket to Jamaica for a . . . . . . . .

A long time ago in a land far away, I had my moment of fame, now I'm a dinosaur waiting for the comet.......

Fork' em all...... I'm happy where I am today. . . . .Fat, Dumb and Happy.

I wanted that one bad, but I didn't have the money.

It was a Timex Sinclair, 100 model, I think. 1982
Stored data on a cassette deck. Had a spreadsheet and a bookkeeping program, also on cassette. Other programs you had to write in BASIC.
..I still have it.

The next one was an IBM PC jr. Color monitor and all, a BIG step up.

Beginning to think the servers here have been retrograded to Tandy TRS-80's. Something has this site dragging.
