Considering buying a pond prowler 8 from Bass Pro and putting a 55 lb. Minn Kota on it.

Anyone have experience with these-also considering going with a 10 ft that seats two.

Thoughts?

I bought the 10’ Academy version of it. A 40 lb trolling motor is plenty of power.
My experience: Unloading from the 6’ pickup bed was easy using a normal boat ramp. Loading it back in pickup was difficult. I had the largest lead acid trolling motor battery that Academy sold and it was a pain to load and unload. If I were to do it again, I would buy two of the medium sized batteries and just rotate them.
If you are fishing solo, the boat will want to pirourette - spin around in circles. To stop this, you need to build a rudder for the stern. I used a flag pole mount, PVC pipe and a painted thin sheet of plywood. This helps the boat track straight.
It was great to fish with my son when he was in early grade school. In the end, the pain of loading it up into the pickup bed and dragging the heavy battery around convinced me to go to a plastic kayak.
If you do buy one, make sure you take the MSO (Manufactuer’s Statement of Origin) to the Texas Department of Wildlife and get a title and register it. Most of the used pond boats listed for sale do not have titles so they can’t be registered for use on public lakes. When you go to sell it, a titled boat is always easier to sell and bring in more money.
