Anyone ever looked at this? My doctor and I got into an argument on this yesterday. I think she is nuts.

I'm 60, 6'2", 230 lb's, and go to gym 6 days a week. This thing says I have to get down to 195ish to be at a healthy weight. How ridiculous is that? My argument is I would have to be a starving marathon runner or triathlete to get down to that.

I could still lose another 4-5 #'s but I would be a bean pole at 195. It does not take into account frame size, muscle mass, fat percentage, or anything else. With that chart, I'll bet 97% of people are obese today.

BTW....Blood work came in great.

I'll be 69 in a few months. I had my semi annual physical on Tuesday. I'm 6' 1" and weigh 192 and it says I'm over weight. Really? If I'm over weight, then 90% of the people I know are also over weight (this also includes my doctor and his nursing staff).

This started in the early 90’s. I think it’s BS. Neck size and waist size calculation.

It’s a way to sell diet drugs, diet food, and endless doctor visits. There is no perfect size or shape, IMO.

I don't need a Dr to tell me that 97% of the people are obese. I have eyes and can look around..........

Agreed. The way they measure BMI is way too simplistic. 6'2" 190 lbs, fit as can be, and I'm borderline. noidea

What a maroon!

I’m the same height as you, in decent shape and weigh 205, to get to 230 I’d have to stack on an insane amount of muscle or get fat, it would be a full time job. 230 is big unless you were a lot bigger when younger.

You are correct. Common sense shows that.

Once I totally changed my way of “living,” I did a ton of research on weight and it is amazing how well the body is designed to operate with minimal calories. Many studies show that near “starvation” eating actually allows most bodily systems to function more efficiently.

If you go back through history most of the populations never had enough calories by todays standards. Anyway. One can “prove” whichever stance they want to follow. I am not promoting either. I am trying to get to what the “BMI” index says I should be. And yes, when I get there I will be very “skinny.” I mostly want to see if I can get there and if it will actually make a positive impact.

Nice thread. 👍

Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

That's funny. I had a nurse ask how tall I was one time and I told her 5'10". She measured me and says no you're not. She wouldn't give me a quarter inch. So now I tell everyone I am 5'9" and three quarters. It's doctor certified.

5’9” 71yrs young. Last September I weighed 245. Said enough is enough…cut carbs to a minimum and high protein diet. Lots of walking. Down to 198. BMI calculator says I’m .8lbs away from being obese. Screw Dat.
