Went past Cabelas on I35 last night in North Ft. Worth and noticed their sign now says Bass Pro Shops. Has any one been in the store since the sign changed and is their fishing inventory been updated or increased? I haven't been in there in quite awhile but wasn't all that impressed with what they had as compared to the regular BPS stores. This change may have happened quite awhile back and I just didn't notice. TIA.

They merged almost 8 years ago.

I think BPS is geared to bass fishing, Cabelas more to walleye-that upper mid west stuff.

I find myself going there less and less-either store. There are so many on-line options-better prices, better selection.

They stocked walleye years ago in Bridgeport.

Plenty of fishing gear at a Cabelas. BPS was the worst thing that happend to Cabelas. Cabelas had fairly high quality house brand clothing and gear, BPS watered that down considerably.

Cabelas was going belly up when BPS bought them... If Johnny hadn't acquired them they'd be another Kmart or Sears story... Great stores but they couldn't compete anymore... Dan

One could argue it was the best thing that happened to Cabelas, they’d be belly up if Johnny didn’t come to the rescue. BPS has some cheap clothing but they have some higher quality as well.

I don't know about the Ft. Worth location but the Allen location has a well stocked fishing department. I may or may not buy from them but it at least gives me the option of seeing things in person. I have gotten to the point that much of the gear that I like just isn't available locally so I miss the opportunity to see before I buy. Luckily we have a lot of different options in our area.

The customer service overall in the Fort Worth store is consistently great and has been the past couple of years. Some of the most genuinely helpful and friendly store employees I've seen. I have zero complaints about that store. Well stocked and can usually find a good bargain or two.

I agree, Mark. My experience has been the same. One staff member approached twice to ask if he could help me find anything and said, "Sorry- I know I already asked you, but it's slow right now and I want to make sure you're doing ok."

Couldn't agree more. Every time I'm there, I spend more time talking fishing than I do at other stores. They are very knowledgeable and enjoy the sport as much as we do.
