For many fishermen February is all about winter fishing for crappie and whitebass in and around Texas. 2011 started out dry and just got drier throughout the year culminating in record setting heat and drought that persisted well into the spring of 2012.

The week leading up to Memorial day 2015 and again one year later 2016 Texas had record rainfall that flooded much of the state. Lake Whitney was one of those lakes that reached maximum capacity and began releasing that flood water all summer.

When conditions are right the whitebass and crappie will move up into the Yegua as soon as they can! I found a few long before the circus arrived to Newman Bottom!
