Last Tuesdays storms knocked our weatherhead and meter box partially off our house. Lines were down in our back yard going from the weather head to the pole. We still had power. Turned in a work order Wednesday to Bowie Cass. They finally came yesterday and cut off the power. I contacted the landlord and he got a quote from an electrician of $1300 to repair the weatherhead and meter box. Landlord is a dumb a** and wants Bowie Cass to fix everything. I have a generator that would pretty muck power the whole house, I just don’t know how to do it other than running extension cords everywhere, and that wouldn’t make the water heater work. I’ve heard of suicide cords but know nothing about them and from what I’ve read, pretty scared of them. How can I get the generator to power the whole house?

Might well be cheaper just to pay the electrician $1300 to make the needed repair.

Weather head will have to be repaired correctly before electric company will connect power.

$1,300 is fair market price too.

We don’t have the $1300. Shouldn’t the landlord have to pay it? He lives in Arlington and we’re in Mt Pleasant so communicating is sometimes hard. Plus, he’s a idiot

Heck yeah he should pay. Yes, he's an idiot. Regardless of where both of you live, it's HIS house...HE PAYS unless YOU did the damage.

Landlord should pay for the repair.

He will write it off as an expense at the end of the year.

Completely agree landlord should pay just saying for you to have the generator set up properly to run the whole house might cost just as much as the $1300. If I was put in that situation pretty sure I would be looking for another house to rent.

Doubtful insurance would be any help the deductible is probably higher than the repair.

Here's the path that tornado took. A church up the road from us had a lot of damage, and my neighbor about 150 yards down the street had a large tree fall on the corner of his house and his carport was completely destroyed by another tree. We lost one large oak, and had limbs everywhere.

There were a lot of power lines down, but SWEPCO had the power back on late that evening.

Still cleaning up.

Bowie Cass had ours back on that evening too. A limb fell in our back yard onto the line and pulled the weatherhead and meter box off the house. Even with all that, we still had power but live lines on the ground. Luckily our dogs didn’t touch any of them. Landlord says since the electric bill is in our name, it is our responsibility to. I’m telling yall, he’s a fricking idiot. We’ve lived here almost 10 years and at the moment have no lease. It’s expired. It’s just everything in Mt Pleasant is so expensive. We live out by lake Welsh close to the college and pay only $850 a month for a 4 bedroom house.

It's a little crazy your landlord is trying to make you pay for that. You might want to check your lease to see if it has a month-to-month clause that kicks in when the lease expires. Most leases have that clause. Also, most leases would stipulate that is something the landlord carries the responsibility to pay for.

That is not a minor repair and should be the landlord's responsibility...and if I'm reading the law correctly, he has 7 days to have it fixed.
