Why is this so hard?
It is prom dress shopping season. Between 22 years of marriage and almost 18 years raising a female child, I understand that women like to have their feelings and opinions validated. Apparently, admitting that a dress is cute AND stating that it is slutty is not validating her feelings.
I guess cute and slutty cannot exist in the same garment?
If anyone knows how to safely navigate these waters, I could sure use a guide.

You’ll always be their father. Enjoy the moments before they get so busy with their own lives.

Good luck! There really aren’t any rules that a guy would understand. We have two grown daughters. One was an angel and one was the devil.
I can help you when it comes to marrying them off. Have a meeting with wife and daughter and decide on what the wedding should cost. Then cut a check to the daughter and tell her she can keep what she doesn’t spend. It’s amazing how frugal she can get when its HER money.

That’s a great suggestion on paying for a wedding Yes that is a well thought out, logical and responsible way to handle it....of course it won't work. Wives and daughters, especially when it comes to weddings, do not think logically or even rationally, and forget everthing they have ever known about being fiscally responsible. I have raised two girls, and the oldest just got married a week ago. Having lived through two quinceaneras, I sat my wife and oldest daughter down and said "I know you are going to spend a ridiculous amount of money on this wedding, that I am going to get angry and frustrated at every turn of the way and that no matter what I say you both are going to do whatever the F you want anyway so here is the deal: Leave me out of it. Just do what you are going to do anyway and I will simply go where I am told to go and do what you need me to do and thats it." Best thing I ever did...

Good luck amigo. The rule book changes daily. Two daughters two granddaughters.
There are battles you avoid. Prom dress is not one you should enter.
Here’s the deal on wedding. Options A or B A we have your big wedding. All the foo foo that goes with it. One day B we get you married here at the house have a big party and fish fry and I’ll make the down payment on your house.
Older daughter took B and no doubt younger one will too.
Had to edit, she took "B" My mistake posting on phone with no glasses.

Yep I tried that and gave the down payment on a house option to my son in law when he came to ask for my daughter's hand. He, of course, had no greater influence on that decision than I did.
