Is prespawn the best time for glide baits? I think they work year round but I'm not expert on them.

Don’t throw one over a brush pile post spawn.

Don’t throw one over a brush pile post spawn. Or wake one up shallow post spawn.

What size braid are y’all using I would think 30-50# would be sufficient and maximize performance.

I can tell you from my experience, (which is very limited) that water clarity is the key for my positive results . I have whacked them on squaw with a smaller jointed swim bait with FFS. I have duplicated this on a few other lakes when I was in some cleaner water. Working it over structure, and letting them (come out of brush, or up off a ledge) to pounce is super cool. But I have never caught a fish on one just casting and reeling. My little home lake (Grapevine) has a typical green tint that is just a little too stained for most days. After a mild weather pattern, the north side of my lake will clear up and I might pull it out if I have located them in specific areas. I have had some real fun with larger swimbaits, and had my heart broke several times. The thing is like a flutter spoon, when a big bass starts throwing her head around the mass of the larger baits can come off easily. Use the best hooks you can find on a swim bait. In June (post spawn) is when all the magic happens for me. That's when I do really good with big spoons, glide baits, really big cranks, and the magnum trick worm. Before they disappear into the void they will gang up in specific areas, and memories can be made in a very short time. But I am going to say that I have found that if you have located a big school of big bass, most of the time (for me) You might get one or two chances with a big bait before they say "hell naw". Good luck, and share your results if you have success...

They did. I wouldn't put them away after presoawn though. If bass are targeting shad they will eat a glide. It's for sure all year round bait to me.

I fish it year round as well. In the winter and early spring I fish a big 9ish inch one with a wide glide, slow like a jerkbait. Here in Kansas I've fished a lake that had ice on part of it and threw the 9 inch glide and hammered them on the part that wasn't frozen. At one point I had a wolfpack of 15 or more fish after it. When the water warms in the spring I fish it with a moderate retrieve and start the choppy glides. Summer I burn them with a fast stop and go retrieve and choppy glides and in the fall same deal, choppy fast glides, usually the smaller 6 and 7 inch ones.

I throw different ones. On days they will bite a glide, they would likely eat any of them. On days they don’t want it, I’m not sure it matters. I throw lots of different ones just because I like messing with them. These have been pretty good to me at times for something a little different. https://teamcaliglide.com

Does anybody like floating ones? All I’ve used are slow sink One of my biggest glide bait fish came after I backlashed a bomb cast and the bait sank to the bottom while I was cussing and picking out loops. Got my line reeled up and the bait was about 10 yards from where it splashed down. So sinkers for me get those sweet bonus bass…
