Right now, the giant shad (see my post) are coming up into shallow water in Eagle Mountain. I’m catching them in my boathouse in 5’-7’ of water. Most go the big ones top out at about 8” but a few are bigger. The lake is stirred up right now so that’s a plus. Best time is dark of the morning and around sundown. They are hanging under the walkways in the boathouse so I have to throw right up against them. Oddly enough, I catch more if some of the weights hit the aluminum deck. I guess it scares them out from under the deck. Only once have I caught many big ones from my boat but when I did, I caught 67 of them in the 5”-7” range. But that was at sundown in the fall and they had ganged up in 3’ of water in the back of a cove. Ditto on the cheap net suggestion. F you’re casting into unknown water from the bank, you’re going to lose nets or go swimming.
