…for bitching about my boss and his son ordering the wrong parts EVERY TIME. gave up on doing the AC on the Chevelle yesterday. Decided I’d install the new steering column while I waited on them to get the correct AC parts. Well…I opened the box as he walked by, and I said “well….lets just NEVER order the right [censored]”. He said “just load up your [censored] and get outta here…I’m tired of your bitching”… “but, put that car back together first”. Then his wife came over and asked me what I needed for the car. And what wood she needed to order for the trunk build. I said I don’t need anything. Your husband fire me and he’s retarded if he thinks I’m gonna put this POS back together…THEN LEAVE.

5 minutes later I got the biggest “knee crawling up” apology I have ever been given. He said he was sorry and will always check with me before he orders parts.

I’m still pissed off. I haven’t done a thing all morning. Steaming !!

Damn it gets old. I was gonna retire 5 years ago. But,I really enjoy the work. I don’t need the money, but that’s nice too. He said he feels like I’m attacking him when I talk about the wrong parts for cars. I said I’m not. I said you pay me for what I know and the work I can do. All he needs to do is ask me what parts are the correct ones before they order them. Then feed me parts and I will work. But, I am tired of acting like I’m working. Haha.

Sounds like you have calmly, kindly, in a level headed manner, repeatedly suggested that someone else do the parts ordering.
Going forward, for this relationship to work, there needs to be a different protocol for ordering parts.

Nothing makes a day drag on like staring at a pile of incorrect parts and trying to explain why an AC kit for a car WITH factory AC isn’t going to work and why they make a kit specifically for a car WITHOUT factory AC. Or why a universal street rod steering column that is 6” too short and doesn’t have the mounting points, wiring connections, or the right spline count isn’t the same as the same companies steering column that is designed to fit the Chevelle.

It’s shameful. It is absolutely just as easy to order the right part as it is to order the incorrect part. Incorrect parts make us look bad to the customer and causes lots of delays and extra money.

We used to have a girl that ordered parts for me. She was awesome. She’d say “write the part numbers on a piece of paper, and I will get them”. It was so easy. She quit and went to a different shop when they told her she had to watch their 2yr old during the day as part of her job. Haha.
