Forcing insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions sounds like a great thing, but of course it causes everyone else to pay higher premiums. It's just common sense. We're ordering a for-profit company to accept a premium of a few hundred dollars a month for a person they know will cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe more, in medical expenses.
It's basically the same thing as forcing State Farm to issue a homeowner's policy to me if I call up and tell them my house is on fire.
Insurance companies aren't going to eat those costs. The rest of us make up for them.

Insurance companies aren't going to eat those costs. The rest of us make up for them. The main two reasons healthcare costs hundreds of thousands for fairly basic care is because less than half of Americans actually pay for medical care, and the cost of dealing with insurance companies is insane. I do think if someone had a policy before being sick, the rate shouldn't be able to increase due to the illness. That's the whole point of insurance...

Not half 7.6% or 25.0 million Americans of all ages did not have health insurance in 2023 compared to 10.3% or 33.2 million in 2019.

It is an according to ability to pay . You make low income you pay a fraction of what some one in middle class pays. IE , Jack in Frisco is paying a subsidy for Joe in Oak Cliff
This is the rub, a government imposed robin hood insurance tax. Just ask Justice Roberts.
