The main two reasons healthcare costs hundreds of thousands for fairly basic care is because less than half of Americans actually pay for medical care, and the cost of dealing with insurance companies is insane.

I do think if someone had a policy before being sick, the rate shouldn't be able to increase due to the illness. That's the whole point of insurance...

It is an according to ability to pay . You make low income you pay a fraction of what some one in middle class pays. IE , Jack in Frisco is paying a subsidy for Joe in Oak Cliff

This is the rub, a government imposed robin hood insurance tax. Just ask Justice Roberts.
