I just returned from an incredible trip to Lake Baccarac with Pro Bass Adventures, and my group had a phenomenal experience. Half of our group of nine were high school buddies I fish with annually. Since they’re all from the North, their personal bests (PBs) going into the trip ranged from 5–8 lbs. By the end of the trip, every single one of them had broken their PBs multiple times. Most of us had 40+ lbs for our top five fish every day. Numbers were slightly lower than usual (30–50 fish per day), but the average size was definitely up. One buddy, who only bass fishes twice a year, landed a 12.3-pounder—while sitting down, feet up on the gunnel, throwing a 6XD on braid with a spinning rod! 🤣 Lodge & Management The new owner/manager, Josh Daniells, is top-notch. Super nice guy, unbelievably responsive, and he’s made awesome improvements to the lodge: ✅ Great rod selection ✅ On-site bait store stocked with just about everything you might need ✅ Josh has many more improvements planned ✅ Guides with this lodge are the best on the lake in my opinion. I highly recommend the lodge. Safety & Travel Warning I was very nervous about safety before the trip. We usually fly into Mexico City, then Los Mochis, but this year we had to fly into Culiacán—and I 10/10 would NOT recommend doing that. At Culiacán Airport, our group was shaken down for about $1,000 USD. Six of the nine of us were pulled aside and told we had "too many rods"—which made no sense because none of us even brought rods (the lodge has a great selection). When we explained that, they changed their story and said we had "too many accessories." The fees were completely arbitrary, ranging from $100 to $300 per person. A few guys who spoke some Spanish were able to negotiate lower fees, but it was pure extortion. I will never fly through Culiacán again. From what I’ve heard, Los Mochis does not have this issue. El Salto is closed at the moment. I think the remnants of the Chapitos have decided to make their last stand near the lake. The whole area has been shut down while the military moves into finish them off. (or so I've been told.) The ride to the lodge was fine, and once there I felt completely safe as always. Overall, a fantastic trip! Just avoid Culiacán unless you factor in a couple hundo for extortion and financially it still makes sense. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/03/full-90510-261507-img_2062.jpg)

Great write up, Do you mind stating the price for the package and how many days that included? The lodge fee is $1795 for 3 days and 4 nights. This includes food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and all the Pacifico and margaritas you can drink. I'm a fairly picky eater and I think the food is great. Guides are 80 bucks a day minimum. Really call it $120+ to be fair to them. These guys will work there butts off you put you on fish from before sunrise to 11:30 am and then again from 1:00pm to dark. If you want to start later, end earlier, or take longer lunch it's no issue. I just prefer to maximize time on the water. In any case, compare that to US guides... its an unbelievable value. $40 bucks round trip for the van ride. $140 for the wait staff. Round up on everything for the great service you get. Flights are $300-$750 depending on where you are flying in from... Call it $2,500 to $2,800 per person depending on the particulars. So, for three 12-hour days of fishing with 30-42 lb daily bags the norm a decent shot a DD I think it's a heck of a value.

Josh, you Loco Gringo 😆 how come you guys had to fly into Culiacan? I would think that’s the last place an airline would fly right now. Glad you had a great trip.

I had buddies from all over the country on this trip. With families and schedules I just could not make the logistics through Los Mochis work. Hopefully this cartel nonsense settles down soon!

Congratulations on the great trip!
I tried to make a May trip and it is difficult to get there from Louisiana in May. I love to fish there, probably my favorite lake I have fished in the last ten years. It's a shame Amistad, Falcon, etc. aren't what they used to be.
What was your biggest on this trip and what did you catch it on?

What was your biggest on this trip and what did you catch it on? My biggest was 9-1. My top 5 went 41 lbs and change. My group of 9 had three DD's including the 12.3. I'd say most days guys had a top 5 in the upper 30's to low 40s.

What happened to you at the airport is enough for me to never set foot in that scum sucking country.

Friends just got back from Mexico, only thing I heard so far is: 800 fish in 3 days of fishing....4 guys
Thought about going this year, just can't put myself in that situation anymore. We used to drive a van to Lake Guerrero, those days are just a dream.
