Spring break is coming and I will be staying in South Tx. I will be off work Mar 7 to 14 and want to get into some Rios. Never fished for them. Can someone help with some info about areas from San Antonio and south? Normally I head to Athens but circumstances are keeping me south this year

I’ve caught some small ones in Brushy Creek. But hang on. My guess is some great recommendations will be forthcoming from others.

The Cibolo Creek just Northeast of San Antonio holds a nice population of Rios. Also the Guadalupe River that runs through New Braunfels and Seguin has Rios. The San Antonio River around Brackenridge Park and where the river crosses under Mulberry by the Golf Course has Rios. Espada Park off of S.W. Military is another good area to fish for Rios. I usually start fishing for Rios in early to mid April. You might find some scattered but they don't start bunching up until early April. At least that's what I figured out in the San Antonio area. If by some chance we get a late March strong cold front, that will set the Rio bite to late April, early May. I will check with some friends of mine who fish the SA area and will let you know what they say. Usually April all the way through late October/early November is Rio time. There should also be some good populations in the area you are living at. Rios are a warm weather environment type of fish.

I have fished a couple of pretty good Rio spots but they are still in hiding. Usually mid April is where I am starting to see them.
