I turned 65 last may, Hunting and fishing license aren't the only discounts. The yearly vehicle pass here went from 60$ to 10$

If you are retiring on that date...time to start getting things lined up. Govt moves slowly...if at all. Tell me about it . Waited over a year to get disability benefits . Last administration should have added all those new hires to SS instead of the IRS .

I'll turn 65 in August. I'm still looking into SS and Medicare. I need to make an appointment with the SS office. I've been told that's where I have to enroll in Medicare at. Still going to be working for a few more years, but I'm good with that.

Still going to be working for a few more years, but I'm good with that. SS can all be done on the computer and drop off in a drop box.edit- that was in 2021 when they were stunned in Covid phase. You’re automatically enrolled in Medicare the 1st day of your 65 birth month. They mail you your card. Only thing you have to do or not do is get a supplemental plan.

Man thats great... my fav time of year, when hunting season and fishing season overlap... The next six months will fly by. If you have things in order to retire it is not a bad gig at all.

I’d sure recommend registering for Medicare at 65. If you don’t, you can be majorly punished on part D drug plan, and that penalty goes up each year - apparently expotentially. Also register and check into what’s involved in Social Security. The longer you wait to start drawing SS, the bigger your check will be each month when you do start. Several years can be a huge difference. But if you wait too long, you can miss some $ you could have captured.
This is all from several years ago and might have changed.
Disclaimer: my mental facilities and memory are going downhill pretty darn fast these days. So all that I said above is likely to not be 100% completely accurate. But find out for sure what you need to do when you hit 65.
