[Linked Image]First time fishing "backwater" in salt. Met my guide about a 45 minute drive south of downtown at first light and off we went to the mangroves. Not as epic as I had hoped, but still a great time. Caught 5 different species: snook, Cuda, and three different species of Jacks. Had a group of small tarpons come out of the mangroves but couldn't get em to bite. Around 20 fish in 6 hours. Snook were crushing a spook type rapala early. Coolest catch was a 16 inch Cuda on the topwater and a 3 footer grabbed him and the topwater and headed into the mangroves! Drag pulling!! Got back the bait and what was left of the small Cuda!

Very cool. Were snook in season? and did you get to keep any of them? IMO, they are the best tasting fish I've ever ate.

Not sure Bubba. We were at a nice hotel and no way to cook them so it was all catch and release!
Thanks Avid, T Bird, and Don.

How was the guide? Would you recommend them?

Yes, Ulysses was good. He really wanted me to go to the everglades with where he spends most of his time this time of year. But I didn't have enough time that day. Still put me on some cool fishing!

cheers

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.
