I fished a small lake just east of Jacksboroy,Tx . The larger north section a couple times in the last few weeks. I caught a few donkey sandbass the first trip, and the second trip caught almost a limit of these donkeys. Never seen sandbass this big before, and they fought like hybrids. I really didn't look around the lake for them, but I stumbled into them the second day. Both trips never saw anyone else on the lake, and it is a real nice clear lake.. If anyone has any info please share. I have been tinkering off the grid with less pressured fish, which has been fun. These fish were sniped using FFS, as they were cruising around the lake in about 10-15ft. The lake is small, maybe 2 miles long.

Brent, good info, thanks. Unless something has changed, the North lake is Lost Creek Reservoir (newer) and the South lake is Lake Jacksboro (older).
I’ve caught largemouth bass in both in years past but never any sand bass in either. TPWD shows no sand bass lake records for either lake. fish

That's prob why their so big, nobody is fishing for them. if someone wanted a sandbass record in the books, that's your lake to hit. Thanks for the info. I do not intend to enter anything for this lake, just having fun wetting a line chasing the green fish. I did pick them off with FFS in 10-15ft, didn't look for them in the deep water. The lake map I have (garmin) did not look anything like the depths I was seeing. There is a forest in that lake, and the contour map I have from garmin was totally wrong on depths in many areas of the lake, My lakemaster map had nothing. I will hit the smaller section soon, would like to check it out as well. Thanks for the info.

My kid has played in a couple travel baseball tournaments there as a pick up player when his team was off, I took a couple of rods and and a handful of baits with me to fish around between games and I did really well for beating the bank. I was pleasantly surprised.

Prosise has also mastered a sure fired way to keep hands warm and dry . Cotton gloves covered with nitrile plastic gloves !

Solid sand bass as well.

Nice fish Prosise! It's a nice little, quiet lake. I was on a deer lease just north of the lake 20 years ago. Lost Creek boarded one side of the lease. I work with a feller that fishes it regularly for bass there. And has caught some large sandies out there.

Fished jacksboro lake today, correct lake. Had a blast with FFS with a megabass 110+1 and a spinning rod with a small jig head with a small fluke on the back. Wonderful wx, and the lake is a hidden gem. Without livescope it would be brutal, nothing caught near the bank, all in open water.
