Does anyone know of a decent one that extends at least 24" and has a 2-3lb minimum pickup strength. So far tge Craftsman version and Wang Chung model from Amazon struggle just to pick up a small screw.

The ones I have would not reliably pick up one pound.

This sound like a fun DIY project.

They make some for picking up shotgun shells, clay shooters use them for semiauto guns.
Might try a clay shooting supply

Pick Stick or something like that.

Make your own. Use a cow magnet from a farm store. Or Snap-on made some good ones back in the day so maybe automotive store.

Does it have to retract?

Home store/hard ware store. Get a magnet and a bolt...

It's not that I want to pick up an object that weighs a pound I just want one that will reliably pick up nuts, bolts etc.

I just want the extendable variety to get into tight spaces. I have one similar to the one you listed. It is a bit bigger in size than I'm looking for. Thanks

I have one like that Kubota one, and I have a bigger one. Both get used.

I have a Snap-On that I got back in the 70โ€™s that I still use. On the guy talking about picking up shotgun shells. I have never seen any steel on a shotgun shell. They are either brass or aluminum. A magnet wonโ€™t pick up either one.
