Braid, I run 4-6# on an ultralight. Braid is part of my tuning the set up for the best bite feel.

I use it all.........EXCEPT hi vis line. Alot of people swear that Crappie are not line shy but that has not been my experience at all. People say the same thing about Sandbass but all I can say is that they dont fish for the same Sandbass I do.

My favorite line set up is Mono to Fluro leader. I like the sensitivity of braid but its totally unforgiving on those paper thin Crappie mouths.

I go mostly mainline braid to 2 ft fluoro leader on a UL rod when jigging. More out of habit than anything else.

Is it better to have a 2-3ft fluro leader?

My roots are in Bass fishing so I do it out of habit more than anything. But I have seen to many days were there are 3 people in the boat and the only one getting bit is the one using either fluro leader or straight fluro main line.

Just last year me and Dad were dock shooting with exactly the same set up (same line, reel, rod, jig head, bait, etc). I caught probably 40 to 1 over him (not joking). The only difference was I was using a 4' fluro leader. There is NO WAY those fish were not seeing his line that day.

Now you might wonder why I dont just use a fluro main line instead of just a leader. Cost of fluro has nothing to do with it like most people would think. If you have never tried to use fluro on a ultra lite rig then you will only make the mistake once. Its a NIGHTMARE!!!!!

I use 4-6 lb High Vis Mono exclusively. I like mono because it is smooth and has some stretch to make the fighter better. I like the high vis line because it allows me to see subtle bites.

I like the K9 floro. It’s kind of a mix. Not as stiff as pure floro. I use 6 on my casting and dockshooting rigs and 12lb on my jigging rods. I have 15lb seaguar on my 15’baitcaster rigs. I’ll use braid fishing really deep to feel the bite better but overall I’m not a fan. I never use a leader with braid. If I’m using braid I’m tying straight to the jig.

I use mono or floro. Mainly because i do a lot of fishing in crappie barges and I don't like tearing up brush piles or cutting a line for someone else to get tangled in. I have no problems on a rear occasion that I may loose a jig head.
