I have an iPad and an inexpensive TCL tablet.

I have the expensive 1 gig Internet service.

When I run the speed test program to test wifi...the iPad computes 330 or so speed, while the TCL reports 18.6 or so. Huge difference. Any idea why? Is there some difference with how TCL uses the wifi. Is it actually that slow?
Is it an iOS vs android thing?

Thanks in advance.

It all depends on the wireless protocol in each. You'll never get full spead on any wireless device.

The download speed also depends on the Wi-Fi standard used in your iPad and Tablet. These are the standards currently in use from latest to slowest:

* 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6): This standard replaced 802.11ac in 2019. It's more reliable in crowded areas, uses less power, and supports better security.

* 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5): This standard supports both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. It's about three times faster than 802.11n.

* 802.11b/g/n: This standard uses the 2.4 GHz band and is good for home and small business use.

* 802.11a/ac: This standard uses the 5 GHz band and is good for applications like HD streaming and gaming.

Your TCL tablet has a cheap, low grade WiFi adapter in it.

A poorly ventilated sweatshop with no cigarette breaks.

Well what was the reason for the differences in download speeds between the iPad and the TCL tablet?
